Description
George Vanderbilt officially opened Biltmore in 1895 and was used as an escape from everyday life for family and friends. The mansion and gardens was a collaborative effort between Vanderbilt, architect Richard Morris Hunt and landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted (he also designed Central Park in NYC). With the Smoky Mountains in the background, this grand estate is reminiscent of the "gilded age" and is located minutes away from Asheville, North Carolina.
