Description
Eads Bridge located near the St. Louis Arch was built in 1874 by James Eads at a cost of $10 million dollars. Eads bridge was the first major bridge to use steel in it construction. It's supporting tiers are still some of the deepest in the world. One tier was sunk over 100 feet below the surface of the water before it reached bedrock. The Lewis and Clark statue near the bridge was under water in a recent flood. The statue is titled "The captains return" by Harry Weber.

Nice to see so many beautiful photos of my home town! I moved to NYC in 1978.

I saw this fabulous photograph in the contest "Bridges in Midwest America Photography" and it got my vote in the contest, along with a "like & fav".

As an FYI the statue has since been removed...I think in preparation to rehabilitate the riverfront area. (I hope it eventually gets put back).
