Description
I was lucky enough to visit Big Bend National Park when the yucca's were in bloom. Seven miles down a remote gravel road, lined with blooming yuccas made me feel like I was in a surreal world. Some of these yuccas are over 10 feet tall, more like trees, these yuccas are typically found in Mexico, but in the US, they are only found in the Chihuahuan desert of west Texas. This plant has several names, yucca faxoniana, spanish dagger, dagger flat yucca, Eve's needle. Once said to be part of the lily family, then switched to the amaryllis, then agave and finally botanist agree that it is part of the asparagus family. The blooms are edible and said to taste like asparagus.
